This drive in particular is a Sandisk Cruzer 16GB USB flash drive. The user had accidentally smashed it while the drive was sticking out of their computer.
After it as broken, all 4 “pads” lifted off of the circuit board. Here is a pic of what the busted Sandisk Cruzer looks like:
In this case we were able to solder small gauge jumper wire from the broken leads to areas of the board to make it read. While fragile, this is a good enough fix to extract the data.
In this case the data recovery consisted of 2.8GB of data recovered.
We moved the rescued data over to a Mushkin 64GB stick.
